To minimise waste generation and cultivate a culture of reuse in our communities, we piloted Hong Kong’s first smart reusable cup network at Taikoo Place in late 2020. The programme was then expanded to Pacific Place and Cityplaza, and also included reusable food boxes at Taikoo Place. The system operates by customers asking for a smart reusable cup or food box when purchasing takeaway items, then returning the reusable to a return station, where it is then thoroughly cleaned and put back into circulation. By the end of 2025, the programme had kept over 58,000 single-use containers out of landfills.

Building on this success, we introduced the Green Corporate Catering Programme at Taikoo Place, encouraging tenants to use reusable cups and food boxes for their events, reducing single-use takeaway packaging from catering services. By the end of 2025, we had supported over 60 events with reusable items.

Three GPP office tenants at Taikoo Place and Pacific Place took their waste reduction efforts to the next level this year by introducing reusable containers in their offices, making it even more convenient for colleagues to borrow and return reusables.

We also ramped up promotions of the programmes this year, raising awareness and encouraging people to give it a try. Both Taikoo Place and Pacific Place ran campaigns offering tenants complimentary beverages when they brought their own reusable cup or borrowed one via the Muuse app. Redemptions were facilitated through the Taikoo Place and Pacific Place Offices apps, enabling a paperless experience for all. Over 4,500 drinks were redeemed, significantly reducing single-use cup waste and reinforcing sustainable habits. These impressive figures demonstrate the campaigns’ effectiveness in changing behaviours – the momentum has continued, with more users becoming regular participants in the programme.
